AQUILIALBERG have designed the new Christie’s Milan representative offices located at via dei Bossi 4.
Their work gives to the renowned auction house a new contemporary image and vibrant design. With an approach that fuses the intellectual inspiration of conceptual gestures with practicality, AQUILIALBERG created a sophisticated project with a strong functional twist, very important for Christie’s activities, to progressively reveal a new simplicity in the structuring of space.
Laura Aquili & Ergian Alberg created an environment full of suggestions where the space is sculpted by continuous lines which scan the rhythm. The fluid perception of different surfaces suggests an extreme exploitation of space and a natural course of different programs.
The 4 existing structural pillars are the starting point around which the entire project starts to play with the visual permeability of the environment.
The main wing-wall insinuates itself in the prestigious spaces of the historical building and like a strong mark escort the progression of different architectural spaces, from reception to meeting rooms, from client rooms to client service bringing the logo CHRISTIE’S, letter by letter, on its surface together with 2 light-boxes showing the most important paintings for the next Auction Sales.
The fluidity of spaces is enhanced by the richness of different materials which subvert a classical order, mixing together traditional and contemporary techniques.
The unusual Corten steel floor generate a fascinating contrast with the shiny effect of the precious white plaster and with the elegant and contemporary Corian(R) by DuPont(tm) adopted for the Christie’s reception desk and for the Christie’s catalogue displays. A clear reflection of the brand new atmosphere which pervades throughout the rooms, exposing their nature with the uniqueness of a contemporary design.
Grammar and technique introduce a strong and evocative architectural scenery which communicates elegance and lightness. A message of a very independent and intense style: the value of positiveness, avant-garde and whim.
